We are calling on the government to withdraw the licence of this particular company and charge the owner of the company for failing to secure the firearms. We are asking the Police to investigate if the same firearms where used in other crimes. After investigating the Police should report to the survivors of this crime and encourage them to sue the company. There has to be a consequence for this irresponsible and damaging lack of control and will also encourage the public and every security company to take responsibility of the firearms in their possession.
We call on the Auditor General to inspect all procedures and accounts of firearms in Government departments that utilise firearms. We need to know that every firearm is accounted for and if any have been reported missing.
Another concern is the management of the stockpiles of firearms. These stockpiles consist of firearms accumulated from the previous homelands, the military, new guns and also the SAP 13 stores (of which there is one at every police station). The National Police Commissioner should assess these stores and take steps to stop the link of firearms from these stockpiles to crime scenes.)
