School head shot in office (Sowetan newspaper 03/03/09) by Katlego Moeng

A Johannesburg school principal is fighting for his life after he was shot in the neck, allegedly by a parent yesterday.

The Gauteng College principal is in hospital following an altercation over school fees. A shop manager next to the school, Leon Botha, called the police after hearing two gunshots inside the school.

"One of the school parents quarreled with the principal about school fees before pulling out his gun and fired at the principal. The man then ran through the glass door of the school, smashing it." Hillbrow police Captain Bhekizizwe Mavundla confirmed the incident. "The principal was rushed to the hospital in a critical condition," said Mavundla.

A case of attempted murder has been opened but no arrest has been made yet.
