"The boy is fortunate that urgent medical and surgical intervention saved his eye but not all will be as fortunate," said Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) ophthalmology department head Dr Noora Al Kobaisi.
"The boy was playing with the gun that uses iron pellets as bullets when he hurt himself last Friday," said Dr Al Kobaisi.
"His parents took him to three different hospitals before he was brought to the SMC."
Dr Al Kobaisi said the boy was now recovering and should be able to have proper vision after a few weeks.
"We take this opportunity to caution parents not to get such toys for their children," she said.
"We are also looking at sending an official letter from the hospital to the Industry and Commerce Ministry to crack down on places that sell such toys."
